Division for Vocational Education
The Division for Vocational Education is one of the 14 divisions of the German Educational Research Association (GERA/DGfE) which is the professional association for educational researchers active in teaching and research. The association was founded in 1964 and currently has approximately 4,200 members.
The Division for Vocational Education represents approximately 450 members in a wide-ranging field of research and practice: vocational preparation, vocational training, and continuing vocational education.
Research
Vocational and business education research focuses on questions concerning the various phases of vocational and pre-vocational training, as well as issues relating to institutional theory, teaching and learning theory and research, historical approaches to vocational education, comparative and international perspectives, and so on. The close connections between vocational and business education and associated research fields, especially economics and engineering, open up new research and teaching areas. Generally, they focus on teaching and learning, as well as the prevailing conditions in economic and technical contexts (companies, associations, non-profit organizations) and are reflected in the subdivision of business education.
Conferences
The Division for Vocational Education regularly hosts academic conferences. Members report on their research and thus provide insights into the findings and trends within vocational education and training research in higher education institutions. Barbara Budrich Publications publish the contributions in a conference volume which is available online with the kind permission of the publisher.
